About us

Founded in Budapest, by Sandra Sándor in 2005, Nanushka designs womenswear, menswear, and accessories made from carefully chosen materials with low-impact credentials. Focusing on craftsmanship, detail, and fabric, Nanushka builds an elegant, modern wardrobe that combines traditional craft with contemporary design. Celebrating the beauty in imperfection, Nanushka brings pure design and conscious creativity together in a refined bohemian perspective informed by travel, innovation, and respect for heritage.

Under the creative direction of Sandra Sándor and the leadership of Peter Baldaszti, Nanushka, as a fashion house, has brought Central European design to the forefront of the fashion industry, making it the first of its kind.

A natural extension of the brand’s elevated aesthetic, Nanushka's Stores and Cafés offer a welcoming sense of community globally in Budapest, London, New York, and Shanghai.

Nanushka’s purpose is to redefine luxury, responsibly and authentically, by innovation through craft, instilling function in beauty, while embodying the essence of Nanushka: spirit shines through matter.

20 YEARS
Nanushka was born in the summer of 2005 in the most cherished of spaces-a small storage space connected to my family home in Budapest. With only one seamstress, one pattern maker, and myself, the early steps of Nanushka's journey were taken within these walls. For five years, this studio was the space that shaped the identity of Nanushka.
20 YEARS
Nanushka was founded on the back of my final bachelor thesis at the London College of Fashion. The core values that influenced the brand back then-New Heritage, Innovative Craft, Consciousness, and Function in Beauty-remain at the heart of Nanushka today.
20 YEARS
One of my most cherished memories is of Selma Blair visiting my atelier in Budapest in 2005. It was our early days, and her visit marked a moment of affirmation for Nanushka, which is still to this day a memory that excites me to think about.
20 YEARS
Opening our first Nanushka store in the United States at the end of 2019 was a landmark achievement. Now, as we will relocate to 27 Mercer Street, I find myself reflecting on the full-circle moment this represents for us in the city.
20 YEARS
My first visit to New York was at the age of 16, to see my uncle who had emigrated from Hungary in the 1960s. When Nanushka made its New York Fashion Week debut in 2018, it felt like I was living in a dream. The timing was perfect-the New York Times published an article about us the day we arrived for the presentation.
20 YEARS
In 2011, we took our first steps into the physical retail world. I have always loved interacting with customers so this was an exciting new journey for us, especially in my hometown of Budapest. To bring our vision to life, we partnered with six architecture students who built the store in just under three weeks!
20 YEARS
Peter joining Nanushka as CEO and co-owner marked the start of a new era for the brand. My then-boyfriend (now husband) brought a period of ambitious global growth and transformation, while still creating a family-like team.
20 YEARS
In the summer of 2018, we welcomed friends of the brand to Budapest, inviting them to experience the city that shaped Nanushka. Housing our atelier in Budapest is something close to my heart, as many of the talented women have been working with me for many years, and it was important to showcase their technique and craftsmanship.
20 YEARS
Over the years, I have had the privilege of assembling a talented team of designers who share and can translate my vision. It still amazes me how much we have grown together, and I am grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey.
20 YEARS
In June 2019, my long-term dream of launching menswear became a reality at Paris Fashion Week. This represented more than just a new category for Nanushka-it was an homage to the men in my life and the Nanushka man, acting as a natural extension of the brand.
20 YEARS
At the end of 2020, we opened our first flagship store in London - a true 'pinch-me' moment, given my earlier years studying in the city. As London has quickly become our second home, it only made sense to build a 2nd headquarters and have a space big enough to allow experimentation, living through the Nanushka Apartment and Café.
It's incredible to be able to work between both of my favorite cities, and allow us to explore a pool of talent and build the dream Nanushka Team.
20 YEARS
My son Samu was born in early October of 2021. This was the first time I have ever had to take a step back from my business and fully put my trust in others.
Distancing myself to be present in motherhood was one of the hardest tasks I've ever had to do but thanks to my team, I was able to learn how to balance both being a mother and a Creative Director.
20 YEARS
The first hero bag Nanushka ever launched. The Origami bag was introduced in the Resort 2022 collection, marking a significant shift in our design philosophy.
This bag, with its emphasis on functionality, folds completely flat while showcasing hand-crocheted seams.
20 YEARS
As we celebrate Nanushka's 20th anniversary, our Spring/Summer 2025 collection reflects on the past, honors the present, and manifests the future. It is a tribute to the journey that brought us here and a celebration of everything we have achieved along the way.
20 YEARS
Nanushka has always been my childhood nickname, so it only felt natural to name my brand after this. As I grew and matured over the years, so did our logo, with each version representing a new chapter in Nanushka's story.

The Kopjafa symbol originates from a 16th-century tradition across the Kingdom of Hungary. Kopjafa totems traditionally featured intricate motifs that indicated a person's characteristics, ensuring their memory-they're a symbol of legacy. New heritage is one of our core pillars and a constant source of inspiration for design, so it was only natural for us to create our own house symbols.
20 YEARS
Offering our community a glance into the world of Nanushka, the Nanushka Café allows us to share the environment we embrace and brings the café culture of Budapest to life for our clients, blending both lifestyle and fashion. What I thought would be the next natural extension of the brand, the intention behind the café was to host and welcome our community in a space authentic to us, and extend the world of Nanushka to others.
20 YEARS
Our pop-up stores have taken Nanushka to new and exciting places, with the most memorable moment being our summer 2022 residency at El Silencio in Ibiza. This experience was a celebration of summer in our favorite destination with our dearest friends of the brand, and gave us the first opportunity to experiment with how we translate our brand ethos in unconventional settings.
20 YEARS
The Hide jacket has become a staple Nanushka piece. Seeing people wear this iconic style in public is a testament to how far Nanushka has come and how this jacket has played a pivotal role in shaping the brand's identity.
